UR Pride Centre For Sexuality and Gender Diversity
Statement on the Passing of Bill 137
We here at UR Pride are upsettingly unsurprised that the Government of Saskatchewan would force through legislation that would cause irreparable harm to children. Unfortunately, this does not shock us. We are beyond shock. We have watched the Government of Saskatchewan disregard its voters, experts in the field, and the communities most directly affected by this legislation in an unprecedented display of government overreach for the last week. We have watched as a democratically elected body abused its legislative powers to strip rights from at risk children.
We will not stand by quietly. We will continue to support avenues of resistance in whatever means available to us. We will continue to provide vital support services to the young people directly affected by this legislation. We will continue to loudly show up for and advocate for the rights of all people - especially those within the Trans and Queer communities. We believe that through the democratic process and civil demonstration this government can and will be held accountable to this injustice.
UR Pride stands steadfast in our commitment to the fight for Trans and Queer rights in Saskatchewan, and we will never give in to hatred and institutional oppression.
In queer solidarity and resistance through joy,
We. Will. Win
